Akhanda Bhajans | A shared devotion towards Lord Ayyappa
Akhanda Bhajan started as a small group of ardent devotees of Lord Ayyappa who got together at Swedesboro, New Jersey’s Sri Raja Ganapathi Temple (SRGT). Earlier, the monthly Ayyappa Bhajans and the yearly Sashtha Preethi puja at the temple were some of the most engaging events. Bringing devotees together to sing bhajans that exalted the Lord’s grandeur and united in devotion to Lord Ayyappa was fervently pursued by the team.
However, when COVID hit in 2020, the team of Akhanda Bhajans went above and beyond in organizing several virtual bhajan and devotional events to bring the devotees into one platform and help them carry on with the devotional activities seamlessly sitting at home even in quarantine. From organizing virtual events on Zoom, and singing bhajans together to enabling people to join multiple devotional activities, the team of Akhanda Bhajans has put
tremendous effort into bringing devotees together. Hence, the group that had started with five or six members quickly grew to fifteen or twenty.
Major Accomplishments of Akhanda Bhajans until now:
Events in 2022
Akhanda Bhajans organized their first event in 2022. The team was able to leverage Zoom to host events, capture audio and video streams from participants worldwide, and broadcast them to a global audience via their YouTube channel.
The team established 30 two-hour slots and began reaching out to friends, family, organizations, temples, and communities worldwide to promote the event and encourage participation.
Another major accomplishment was when one of the team members was present at the auspicious Thiruvabharnam procession and was able to capture the entire event, to provide video and audio feeds whenever possible.
Devotees could not only view the procession live on one tile on Zoom but also listen to the bhajans which were being played on another.
The participants and viewers were ecstatic because this was unusual. Even though there were a few challenges and it wasn’t flawless, the response received after the event was overwhelmingly good.
Events in 2023
By 2023, the team realized that they were the ones selected by the Lord to chalk out this incredible event, and were determined to make it even better.
In 2023, participation was from 23 groups across 4 continents, 8 nations, and 22 locations. More organizations around the world had been reached out to, and most significantly, the younger generation began to participate.
There was a greater enthusiasm to engage in the bhajan sessions, which were livelier and more wonderful.
Regarding numerous of the incredible feedbacks that were given, the visitors to the YouTube channel only had positive things to say.
